What Is Desiccated Thyroid Extract?

Desiccated thyroid consists of thyroxine, together with triiodothyronine, the active thyroid hormone that is also referred to as T3. It also contains some other thyroid hormones present in a proper gland, which includes T1 and T2. Desiccated thyroid is given when the thyroid does not create an adequate amount of this hormone by itself. Desiccated thyroid treats hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone).
