Since the emergence of man (and women) on the world scene, jewelry has been designed and developed to give to those they love. The first recorded history of jewelry we have is in Africa, where ostrich eggs were often used to make beautiful pieces of art. When jewelry development migrated up to the Mediterranean area, jewelry was often used to cast off the “evil eye”. It was thought that a person could cast a spell on you by giving you the “evil eye”, and jewelry could be used to safeguard you from it.
When the U.S. emerged from World War 2 jewelry production exploded. Different craftsmen explored different materials and designs, but the old “stand bys” are often still the favorites. Forms of heart jewelry that are currently being made are: crystal, diamond, desert, double-heart, glass, god’s, half-heart, gold, open, pink, silver, ruby, sterling silver and white gold. Quite the variety don’t you think?
